The older I get the more I realize beauty starts on the inside. When I see something I don’t love happening on the outside - whether it be with my skin, hair or even holding onto a little excess bloat than usual - I immediately begin to investigate what is going on internally.
The outside of me is a roadmap for my insides and my insides are a space I’m always looking to nourish more efficiently. I want my organs, nervous system, hormones and so on to be working efficiently so I too can be functioning at my most optimal level - physically radiant as well as emotionally sound. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be healthy AND look good!
For example, if I’m getting acne along my jawline I know that is hormonal and can also suggest liver congestion. Instead of worrying/picking at my face, I will begin to look at ways to support my liver and get it functioning at its highest vibration once again, while also being mindful to be extra gentle and caring towards my skin. Rather than using harsh products, I’ll add in Shea Butter as it not only softens skin but also helps soothe the appearance of breakouts
When I’m looking for additional support for my body to stay balanced, I always look first to Sun Potion’s herbs. Here are my favorite Sun Potion herbs to assist me in staying vital on the inside and radiant on the outside.
Pearl
A food that has been eaten for centuries as it is believed to help promote our bodies natural collagen production. Collagen is on my mind constantly now that I am in my 30’s and I am always turning to Pearl to plump my skin! I Iove to add a tsp to my potions in the morning, 1-2x per day.
Ashitaba
An herb nicknamed “Tomorrow’s leaf” in Japanese Folk and Oriental Medicine because it will regrow all its leaves that were picked, overnight. It is rich in B Vitamins and said to nourish the blood and contains compounds called chalones that stimulates our Nerve Growth Hormone which is a key player in vitality. For women, it’s essential to heave healthy blood because it’s what keeps our skin glowing and hair strong, as well as many other reasons. We have to remember that each month we lose blood during our cycle so we should always be looking for ways we can support / build blood within our system.
Triphala Elixir
I’m a long time lover of Triphala. Triphala, meaning three fruits, is a polyherbal medicine made from the dried fruits of three plants native to India: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. Ayurveda practitioners have been using Triphala for centuries to help aid in digestion and elimination. Our bodies cannot be functioning at their peak if we are not able to process and eliminate waste! I use one dropperful in 8oz of water every morning to make sure my system is running smoothly, which in turn ask keeps my skin clear!
Reishi
Known as the queen healer, Reishi is traditionally valued for supporting the immune system. Reishi is also used as an adaptogen and thus helps our bodies cope with stress. When cortisol, the stress hormone, spikes and continues to spike it can have terrible effects on our skin. Reishi assistance to help my body stay stress free means I reach for this herb whenever I’m having a particularly hard week and need assistance in finding balance.
Prash
Prash is a mixture of Raw Wildflower honey, ghee and medicinal herbs like Mucuna Pruriens Extract, Ashwagandha Extract, Rhodiola Extract, Astragalus Extract, He Shou Wu Extract, Eucommia Bark, Pine Pollen and Polyrachis Ant. It is basically a superfood that is high in minerals and supercharges my cells through its high antioxidant content. Plus, it’s delicious enough to be spooned right out of the jar for dose. This is THE ultimate feminine / yin Tonic!
Below is a potion I include in my nightly rotation to utilize my favorite herbs in the most delightful and delicious way possible before sleep. I recommend adding these into your routine and your entire body will thank you.
