Questions, answered
Tonic herbs are roots, leaves, barks and botanicals from Taoist and Ayurvedic herbal traditions, taken in small amounts consistently over time rather than occasionally. Our collection includes He Shou Wu, Ashwagandha, Astragalus, Eucommia, Pine Pollen, Mucuna, Moringa, Ashitaba and Triphala.
Taoist herbalism groups tonic herbs by what they nourish. Astragalus (Huang Qi) is a classic Qi tonic. He Shou Wu nourishes Jing, the life-force essence, and Eucommia is a classic Yang Jing tonic. Pine Pollen is valued as both a Jing and a Qi tonic.
Start with what you want from your daily ritual. Ashwagandha is the Ayurvedic adaptogen traditionally used for balance and resilience. He Shou Wu is the classic Taoist hair-and-beauty tonic. Pine Pollen, wildcrafted from a single high-altitude origin in Yunnan, China, is traditionally valued for natural energy and vitality. Moringa is a nutrient-dense leaf eaten as a daily food for centuries. Triphala is the Ayurvedic three-fruit blend traditionally used for digestive balance.
Each herb comes from a place with a long history of growing it. He Shou Wu is wildcrafted in its Di Tao region of origin in China. Astragalus and Eucommia are wildcrafted at high elevation in Yunnan Province, China, and Pine Pollen is single-origin, high-altitude, collected in Yunnan. Ashitaba is native to Japan's coastal regions and the Izu Islands; ours is grown sustainably in Taiwan. Mucuna comes from India, Moringa is shade-dried in India, and Triphala is grown and processed in India.
Small amounts, daily. Ashwagandha: about ½ teaspoon in warm water, tea or a smoothie. Mucuna: about ½ teaspoon in water, smoothies, coffee or warm milk. Pine Pollen: ¼ to ½ teaspoon in water, smoothies, teas or elixirs, without high heat. Moringa: ½ to 1 teaspoon in water, tea, smoothies, soups or dressings. Triphala: about ½ teaspoon in warm water, ideally in the evening.
Several of our tonic herbs are concentrated extracts rather than simply ground plant. Astragalus and Eucommia are 10:1 cold water extracts (Eucommia made entirely from the bark, harvested without felling the tree), and He Shou Wu is a 10:1 extract of the prepared root. Mucuna, Ashitaba and Triphala are cold water extracts too.
Yes. Every lot is third-party tested, and each herb is the herb and nothing else: no fillers, flow agents or added ingredients.
The Transcendent Elixirs are liquid extracts: one dropperful under the tongue or into any liquid, with no jar or spoon. They contain bio-active honey, so they are not vegan, and grape alcohol at 20% by volume. The powders contain neither.
