FAQ
The herbs, sourcing, orders and wholesale — the questions we hear most.
Using the herbs
What’s the difference between tonic herbs and adaptogens?
Tonic herbs come from traditional herbal systems — Chinese, Ayurvedic and folk traditions — where they were taken in small amounts, day after day, as food rather than medicine. “Adaptogen” is a newer word for many of the same plants. We carry both, and every product page tells you where the plant comes from.
How much should I take?
Most of our powders are used at ¼–½ teaspoon a day. Each product page lists its own suggested use. More isn’t better — these are meant to be taken a little at a time, over a long time.
How do I take them?
Stir them into coffee, tea, a latte, a smoothie or warm cacao. Bake them into pancakes. Many people keep two or three jars by the kettle and build their own morning drink.
Can I mix different herbs together?
Yes — that’s how most people use them. Start with one or two, get to know them, and add from there.
Are your products single-ingredient?
Most of our range is single ingredients, one plant per jar. We also make a small set of blends and elixirs (such as Green Adaptogen and Anandamide), and each one’s product page lists exactly what’s in it.
Are they vegan?
Most of our range is plant-based (e.g. Ashitaba, Cordyceps). The exceptions: Pearl Powder and anything that contains it (Yin Power, and the kits and pairs that include either); Bio-Active Honey and all six Transcendent Elixirs, which are made with honey; Prash; and from Be Here Farm + Nature, Honey Kiss, the Wet Mask, the Dry Mask (it contains Yin Power) and Botanical Tallow. Every product page lists its full ingredients.
How should I store them? How long do they last?
Somewhere cool and dry, lid on tight. Each jar has a best-by date — about two years from packing. In very hot climates the fridge is fine.
I’m pregnant, nursing, on medication or have a health condition. Which herbs are right for me?
We’re not healthcare practitioners, so we can’t advise on that. Please ask your doctor or a qualified herbalist before starting anything new.
Sourcing & testing
Where do your herbs come from?
From the places they’ve traditionally grown — Yunnan, Nara, Northern Canada, India, the USA and more. Every product page has an “Our Source” section, and our Sources page maps them all.
Are your products tested?
Yes. We use third-party testing, including heavy-metal testing, through independent US laboratories.
Why the cobalt and violet glass?
Our Di Tao herbs — Pearl, Pine Pollen, Eucommia, He Shou Wu, Astragalus — and our matcha come in violet glass. Most of our other powders go into our own cobalt jar, made from our own mold. The jars are made to be kept and reused.
