What is Mucuna Pruriens?

Mucuna pruriens, or velvet bean, is a tropical legume traditionally used in Ayurveda — where it is known as Kapikacchu — as a rasayana, or rejuvenating tonic. Its seeds have been prepared and ground into a powder enjoyed as a daily tonic for centuries.

Does Mucuna Pruriens contain L-DOPA?

Yes. L-DOPA occurs naturally in the velvet bean, and mucuna is among the richest known plant sources of it. This describes the composition of the bean itself; it is not a statement about any effect. Mucuna is a food and tonic herb, enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle.

How should Mucuna Pruriens Powder be enjoyed?
