About

Why Sun Potion?

The tonic herbs of the world were never meant to be commodities. They come out of traditions — Taoist, Ayurvedic, and older folk lineages — that treated an herb as a relationship between land, plant, preparation, and person. Everything we do is an attempt to keep that relationship intact all the way to your kitchen counter.

Single ingredients, whole preparations

Most of what we offer is one thing in a jar. Pearl. He Shou Wu. Tocos. Reishi. We work this way because single ingredients keep the relationship honest: you can ask where it came from, how it was prepared, and what is actually in the jar — and get a straight answer. When we do blend, as with Yin Power or Anandamide, the formula is built on classical principles rather than trends, and every ingredient is named.

Sourcing you can ask about

Every Sun Potion herb comes from a named origin where we can document one. Mason Pine Pollen is gathered at high altitude in Yunnan. Ashitaba is sustainably wild harvested in Taiwan. Our functional mushrooms are cultured and grown in the USA. Chaga is wild harvested rather than cultivated, and its origin is one we are still documenting — so that is what we say, rather than guess. "Sourced from Asia" is marketing; a named mountain range is sourcing — and a brand that names the origin is a brand that can be questioned about it. We welcome the questions, including the ones we cannot answer yet.

Preparation is not optional

An herb's tradition usually includes how it is prepared, and that step is where quality is made or lost. Our He Shou Wu is the prepared root, as the Taoist tradition requires, concentrated as a 10:1 extract. Our Pearl is levigated — ground to a silk-fine powder the body can actually use. Our Pine Pollen carries a cracked cell wall, without which the pollen simply passes through. Our Ashwagandha and Triphala are cold-water extracts. Our mushrooms are full-spectrum — mycelium and fruiting body cultured together — with quality proven the measurable way: high beta-glucan content and low alpha-glucan content, the starch marker that reveals dilution.

Tested, and described honestly

Our products are lab tested. Just as important is the language on the jar: we describe herbs the way their traditions describe them — "traditionally used to support," "known to help with" — and never as cures or treatments. If a claim can't be traced to tradition or to a measurement, it doesn't go on our labels.

The cobalt jar

Sun Potion herbs live in cobalt blue glass — not plastic, not pouches. Glass protects delicate compounds from light and air, keeps flavors true, and earns a place on your counter, where a daily ritual actually happens. Many of our customers have been refilling and reusing the same jars for years. More on our approach on the Sustainability page.

An invitation, not a prescription

Tonic herbalism works on the timescale of seasons, not minutes. Small amounts, taken consistently, woven into something you already love — a morning coffee, an evening cup of warm milk. That is the whole method, and it is the one thing every tradition we draw on agrees about.
